Osteoarthritis involves pain of the joints, or connectors of bones in the body. These joints, when healthy, make your body mobile. But with the onset of arthritis, even the simplest movements hurt.

While arthritis can occur anywhere, it is most concentrated in the spine, hand, hip, foot and knee. In addition, older people suffer from this. Arthritis is incurable, but that there are treatments that can aid your pain and enable you to move better. Arthritis is mainly caused by the straining over time of the cartilage cushioning in the joints. The tissue is thick, firm and slippery. It covers, as well as protects bones where they converge to make up the joint.

In arthritis, cartilage changes cause the break down. The bones will rub together, resulting in damage and pain. Aging, overweight, genetics and injury are tagged as part of the cause of arthritis.

Symptoms include: Pain: The joints could show aching, the pain may be sharp. There are some people who regard the pain as coming and going. Deformed joints: Joints will look disjointed with the onset of arthritis Reduced range of the motion and inability to use the joint Cracking of the joint: Doctors would want to know for certain that the pain in arthritis is the result of just that, and no other problem. In doing so you need to detail the symptoms as well as you can.

  • State if the pain is burning
  • Identify if the joints are stiff, and for how long it lasts
  • State if the joint swells

Once your doctor makes an assessment of these, he can now make a diagnosis. If the joints show being tender and swollen, and if muscles begin to be weak, these give a confirmation if you may be under arthritis. You could also consult X-rays for damage. In addition, the doctor may want to conduct blood tests, or others, to verify if there are other causes for the pain.

There are several ways to treat arthritis, but what can work for someone else may not be helpful to you. Coordinate with your doctor to find out the best treatment for you. A mix of these will help you greatly.

Treatment may include the following:

Placing heat or ice on the joint. The heat may aid you to loosen up as an activity will take place. Ice is considered a good reliever after activity or exercise. The doctor may offer you creams or gels in order that you may rub on the joint to prevent the hurting. Exercising for muscle strengthening. Stronger thigh muscles relax the knees. Make sure you consult your doctor on the best anti arthritis activity for you, whether it is running, swimming, etc.

Taking medicine for pain. If the pain is just mild, over the counter stuff including acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) could be of help. Some of the NSAIDs that are included here are ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin. If these do not alleviate the pain a stronger medicine may be needed. Since the medicines may likely take a long time, the doctor should be seen for regular checkups. Losing weight. This may well be one of the better things you can achieve for your arthritis, as it relieves stress from the joints. Undergoing surgery. If the pain in the joint will become exceptionally bad, you may want to consider surgery for replacement of the joint. There are certain devices that can relieve the stress and weight ogg joints, amking it easier to hold objects, open or close things, or walk. One other thing you may consider is to change activities in order to get rid of stress on the joint that will hurt, and allow moving better. You may decide to walk instead of jogging, use a sewing machine instead of just your own hand, etc.
